Josh had graduated to a BIG BOY BED! Of course it had to be toy story bedding. That Santa is one smart cookie! Josh calls it his 'Woody Bed!'

He has slept in the bed for 2 full nights - and a nap! Early stages we know - but isn't he the cutest thing you've ever seen -

For New Years Weekend we traveled to SLC to see friends, go to a sealing, and relax!

Our trip originated because our friends Andrew and Megan were getting sealed to their newly adopted son. It was AMAZING. Of course - I bawled the entire time. the entire time. It just hit so close to home, all the blessings, promises, and joys that come from being an adoptive mommy. It was amazing to experience!

We stayed with Craig and Sarah - and their little boy Christopher - it was a blast! We always have a great time goofing off together! We walked around Temple Square -

We got to see Mike (Paige's Bro) and his wife Summer. Josh was so excited to chat about their baby girl - who will make her debut in February! It was great to see them - we always have a blast together!

On New Years Eve, we ate at our all time favorite Cheesecake factory - with Craig and Sarah and Chris! Then movie time. I fell asleep. of course. and barely woke up to kiss Nick!

We had a great trip! We are so lucky to have such amazing friends and family!

Lots new around our house - just to busy to blog about it.

Paige got a new job at St. George Care - as their SDC - staff development coordinator - she does lots of stuff - education, infection control, administrative stuff, the list goes on and on. It has been quite the transition - but she's hanging in there.

Nick is still the bestest daddy in the entire world. He is still working at the hospital - and not much is new there.

Josh is a very active almost 2 year old. Can you believe it? Almost 2!! He loves to run, jump, bite, yes bite, play, scream, yell, kiss, say no, and just be the cutest boy you've ever met. Every night or nap time, we must read 3 books. The same 3 books. In the same order. If we try to change it up - this little man lets us know we were messin with the wrong boy! :)

Our biggest news is that soon we are headed to Hawaii - It will be a family adventure - mom, dad, and Josh - and we are taking our 12 year old nephew Kaden. We are super excited - to get away, relax, fly on an 'hair-plane,' and have a blast!

Nick's Little Sister Ashley -and her husband Devin - blessed their twin boys on Saturday. It was great! Korbin and Mckoy are getting so big! It is amazing to think they were 11 weeks early - but here they are - at 6 months old - healthy - and just as normal as a full term 6 month old. They are super duper cute

Josh is such a goof! We are loving every second of him! Here are some of our latest happenings: This cute boy - loves loves loves cereal - you can find him carrying around the bag - and munching all the time!

I know this is not a pretty picture at all - - - but Josh is on a snuggle kick - and I'll take all the snuggles I can get - Every night - this is our routine - snuggle, milk, and blanket. I am loving it!

The other day, Andrea called to see if we wanted to come slip'n'slide - We were excited - because it was so blasted hot! Josh was not as excited as we thought he'd be!

Memorial Day - at the Farm

We celebrated Memorial Day in Minersville, with Nick's family! Josh LOVES farm animals, tractors, and all things cowboy. So, we took him to Grandpa's farm for his very first visit. He had a blast!!

First thing - Josh saw the tractor and started saying 'please' 'dada' 'trac-tor' - so Nick - got back into his farming groove - and took the little man for a ride - he was so excited!!

Next, we headed out to one of Grandpa's fields to check out the cows and horses - Josh just stared at the animals! He loved it!

Nick put him up on the fence, at first he didn't like it, and wanted to be held...

But, pretty soon, he crawled up by himself - such a big boy!

Aunt Adrienne and cousin Shakell headed out into the field to round up some horses for Josh to see up close, he was having a hard time waiting for them to come back - but he wouldn't get on the other side of the fence with Nick, to walk through the field. He kept crying every time we'd take him over the fence... so he just waited and waited, and just jabbered non-stop about the birds, cows, horses, grandpa, everything -

Finally, he allowed Nick to take him to the horses -

He loved it!

He gave the horses lots of kisses!

Next we wandered around the farm, here he is running around with Alyssa. Gus and Adrienne's kids take such good care of Josh - and he loves them to pieces! This trip he was very much attached to the girls - Shakell, Aryale, and Alyssa!

Before we could leave the farm - another tractor ride was a must! This time, they rode in a different tractor -

Josh was so excited!

You can't see it in a picture, but Josh was so excited! He was jumping up and down, laughing, screaming, waving - he was loving his tractor ride with his daddy!

We had a blast at the farm!

I love seeing Nick at the farm - you wouldn't know it - but he is a farm boy at heart!

Even though he 'hates' farm work - it is so cute to watch him - and fun to realize how much knows about all that stuff! I don't give him enough credit for how darn smart he is!

I think he had a great time showing Joshy around the farm - and giving his boy a tractor ride or two!

It is so fun to spend time with Nick's family - Josh just loves loves loves Grandpa Marshall - We are so lucky to have such a great family!

Yesterday was Paige's little brother Garrett's High School Graduation.

We love Garrett!

Paige stayed up - uber late - and made him a money lei!

Yesterday we also attended one of Nick's family member's funeral.

Most of his Great Aunts/Uncles were there - we had to get a picture -

Innocent Ignorance

I've been waiting years to post this post. Brace yourselves - it's about adoption: the process, the woes/heartache, the joys, and myths.

I decided on the title 'Innocent Ignorance,' for a few reasons -
1- it is cute and catchy- don't ya think?
2- I really think most comments about adoption come from ignorance
3- Maybe I can help educate others, so that comments - which are meant innocently, that hurt us infertile couples, can be better put.

(Disclaimer: I do not by any means proclaim to have had the longest, roughest, and toughest infertility experience, however...it is what is. )

April was infertility awareness month. I struggled with many emotions - many surrounding the myths and comments associated with infertility.
After much thought, I decided - writing would be therapeutic. I stared at blank paper, and a blank computer screen - for many hours - hoping my words would be put how I want them, and not to offend any - but to make aware. . .

I decided to dispel a few 'myths' regarding adoption -

1. Relax - it'll happen:
Let me just say - who knows us? Are we not the king and queen of vacation - and relaxation - if this myth were true - we'd have a bazillion kiddos - 'nuff said there.

2. Keeping Secrets is better for the infertile folks:
I'm young. Nick is young. We are super popular - and we have lots of friends starting and adding to their families. remember - out of innocent ignorance - and concern for feelings - many of our friends choose to 'hide' their joys from us, because of concern for us. I promise you - I get where they are coming from - but - - it makes it worse. Lots worse. I've felt many a times - that then I'm not 'allowed' to participate in their joys - Now honestly - some of those pregnancy moments were big blows - sad days - and hard. But was I ever upset or mad at the couple for their happiness - NO WAY JOSE' - I was thrilled for them, I was upset at myself - and the inability for me to provide that 'biological' family for us.

3. Whos Fault is it?
Fault - essential means to place blame. I read another adoption blog - somewhere - many moons ago - that infertility is not an active choice - it was more of a curse. True that. We didn't do anything to cause the infertility - it just is. Innocently asked - but comes across full of hurt - again pointing blame at a very obvious imperfection, that we can't control. There are easier ways to word this; however, rule of thumb - - at least from my point of view - don't ask. Is it really a need to know for you anyway... If your infertile friends feel like sharing, they will, in their time.

4. This ... Worked for them!
Great! I love success stories - but for every 5 stories you tell me, I can tell you 156984 stories that didn't work. I really don't want to hear about a new treatment, or medication, or this or that. .. even though I recognize it is out of concern for me, that loved ones share these stories.

5. If you adopt, you'll get pregnant...
Seriously - who knew that was how it worked?
This could quite possibly be the most frustrating comment ever. I've heard the stories as well - and yeah yeah yeah for them! It is wonderful - but again - refer to myth #4 - I can tell you more experiences, when this miracle didn't happen. This comment can make adoptive couples feel like their sweet adopted child is 'second best' - that perhaps now that you've gotten 'that out of the way' you can have 'one of your own.' ... Oh - one of your own... that is real real mean too. But if I want to keep any friends - I better not go into that comment. . . but rest assured - I've heard it - more than once.

6. Adoption Cures the Heartache of Infertility:
Um nope. It sure doesn't. Any infertile couple will tell you - that pain of infertility ... it is always there - just like a nagging old friend- it comes and goes - and some days are much worse than others - and some days you don't even think of it - but I promise you - no matter the love and abundance of adopted children - and joy - nothing cures that heartache - and unless you've experienced it - it is a heartache that cannot be empathized with.

I'd like to share an experience to tie up my novel!

All LDS couples wanting to adopt through LDS Family Services - must go through a series of courses - one course involves a very powerful video.

I'd like to share the correlation made in the video with you - this movie is based on LDS doctrine - if you are interested in finding out more - visit this site.

There was a very worthy young boy. Who was approaching his 12th birthday - he was very excited to receive the Priesthood, and begin to participate in the sacrament ordinance. He met with his Bishop. The Bishop was very proud of the young man, and found him very worthy and ready for this new responsibility in the Church. However, for unknown reasons to the young boy, or the Bishop - the Bishop was unable to extend that responsibility to the boy. The boy left heartbroken, and confused, as he'd prepared so well for this exciting day.

The boy continued to be worthy, and choose the right - hoping one day he'd be able to receive the Priesthood. Once again, on his 14th birthday, the day of Priesthood advancement in our Church, the boy met with the Bishop. Again the Bishop was very pleased with the boy - he was ready, very ready for this responsibility. However, again, for unknown reasons, the Bishop was unable to extend the Priesthood to the boy.

The boy, was discouraged, but he kept doing all of the right things, and again, on his 16th birthday, he met with the Bishop - again the Bishop was proud of the boy, but sadly, again, was unable to bestow the Priesthood to him.

The boy was distraught and again, found comfort from our Heavenly Father, as he'd done all he could -and did not understand why he was not allowed to have the responsibility and blessing of the Priesthood.

The young man was nearly 19 years old, preparing fully to serve a mission. He met with the Bishop - to prepare the paperwork for this great responsibility and opportunity. He was prepared. He was knowledgeable. He was responsible. The Bishop could see he was ready. However, again, the Bishop was unable to allow the boy to receive the Priesthood, and go on a mission.

The young man, devastated, as he'd waited his whole life for this opportunity - decided to take the council of the Bishop - and move forward, obeying the commandments.

The young man met and fell in love with a beautiful girl. They had planned to be married. They went to meet with the Bishop - for their interviews to be able to enter the Temple, to be sealed. The couple was prepared, they were clean and ready, they were worthy. However, the Bishop was again, for unknown reasons unable to allow this ready, willing, worthy young man into the Temple.

As I was watching this movie, how could I not be moved with emotion. This was me.

I was ready. Nick was ready. We would be good, no great parents, but for an unknown reason, we were not permitted to participate.

I hope that story helps paint a picture of where infertile couples come from.

Now, I hope this isn't too much of soap box or lecture - that was and is not my intent. I would be lying if it wasn't some sort of a vent - as we've experienced all of the above situations - many times.

There isn't a day that goes by that I am not thankful for Josh - he is the most important thing to Nick and I - he makes us complete - this is purely just for the infertility side of my heart...

Last night we got to watch Tanner and Camrie

- our neighbor kiddos -

while their parents headed up to SLC for the day.

We had a blast!

First we came home from day care,

enjoyed a ding dong :) out on the swing

and then gathered for milk in the living room.

Of course we read the tickle monster book,

and played the Wii!

When Nick got home,

we BBQ'd and had a picnic in the backyard!

Then we decided, it was a super nice evening!

And we headed out to feed the ducks!

On the drive over, Camrie was so excited,

and Tanner was so scared.

When we got there,

and they saw the ducks,

Camrie burst into tears!

But after we feed them some bread,

they both got excited!

Of course, Josh was never afraid -

he took right after those ducks!

Josh kept asking for a 'cook-cook' which is a cookie/cracker -

He was very persistent to hold the box himself - we let him, and then - he settled right in to the couch - focused on wheel of fortune - and gobbled up his teddy grahams!

Happy Easter! We had a great Easter weekend - with Nick's family.

Friday afternoon. Adrienne, Nick's sister-in-law - came down with her 4 kiddos - we had a blast - playing croquet, eating pizza, and decorating cookies before the rest of the family arrived on Saturday morning!

Saturday morning, we started off with an Easter-Egg-Hunt! There were almost 200 eggs for the kiddos to find! Josh was a pro!

For the last 3 years we've been super duper lucky

to stay in a 'cabin' in East Zion - at the Ponderosa.

Now ... these are not 'cabins' these are luxury homes - they are fabulous!

Lots of 4-wheeling, relaxing, eating, laughing....

we have a great time with Paige's family/siblings.

we headed out to a fire-pit to roast those huge marshmallows!

Josh was bundled up - and was mesmerized by the fire!

Josh is so dang cute - just in case you didn't know! He has been growing up so much - Mr. Independent! The other night, Nick ran to Costco with Josh - and while Nick was putting away groceries in the house, he noticed Josh was 'missing.' He looked for him in all the usual places in the house, and then headed out to the garage, Josh's favorite place to hide! Nick looked and looked - but no Josh. Nick headed out to the driveway figuring Josh headed out to look at the moon. Josh loves the moon. But no. He was not looking at the moon. He was driving the Truck!!! Now, Don't worry. The keys weren't in! Geeze! We are good parents! That kid loves to be in the car - as long as he isn't in his car seat! He loves to run around the seats, jump, and play with all the fun buttons! Josh loves shoes. He can even put on some of his own shoes! Now, he doesn't like to wear them. He is like mommy - bare feet all the way. But playing with shoes is the best fun ever! One night he tried and tried to get Nick's shoe on - he was so intent on getting it on. He fell a billion times, stomped around the pantry, and finally . . . He got it! He was so excited! :)

Josh loves hats - -everything is a hat! He still loves his cowboy hat from G&G Marshall.

Every time he heads for his rocking horse, he has to stop and get the hat. He didn't think it was very funny that Mommy stole his hat for this picture.

A couple of weeks ago, the weather was so nice, so we decided to put together our porch swing that Santa Clause (aka G&G Rawlinson) brought us. It was a quick project, and there was not any fighting or swearing. Amazing! Josh loves to go out on the swing. Lately we've been reading books, and enjoying the nice spring evenings. Our tulips are also in full bloom, and Josh is learning to smell them, not touch them!

Finally - this big boy is such a funny eater. I knew he'd be picky - but dang - he can be so difficult! One day, he can't get enough of a certain food, and the next day he hates it!

His dairy allergy also makes food selection slim, but hopefully he'll grow out of that soon. Fingers crossed!

One thing is always a favorite - pancakes - always an easy choice!

We can't believe Josh is almost 18 months - in just 2 more days! Time is FLYING by. It needs to slow down. We just have to absorb every possible minute with him! He is talking more and more since his little ear surgery - and just exploring everything!

Josh has naughty ears.

There is always an infection.

Always.

So yesterday, he got tubes.

Luckily his tonsils looked good - so no worries there. Just a quick 15 minute surgery for the tubes.

At 0800 Josh got medication to help him relax

Then we went for a wagon ride

and then he kept falling over

So we headed back to our room to cuddle.

Josh couldn't hold his head up.

He was drooling, and his eyes were so droopy.

It was pretty funny.

Josh went back into surgery about 0820, and was back to us about 0840. He was happy when he got to us, he was kissing all the nurses, and waving and then, the medication wore off and we had a monster on our hands... screaming, kicking, biting, hitting, scratching...he was one unhappy boy.

We packed up and headed home at 0900. After a good nap Josh woke up to find Grandma and Grandpa Marshall in our living room. He was super excited!

We spent the rest of the day enjoying time with Nick's parents. It was so thoughtful and nice of them to come down check on Josh.

Josh was spoiled! Thanks everyone for your support!

We decided it was time for a vacation.

We headed off to the Caribbean for 10 days -

without Josh.

It was much needed, and full of fun and relaxation,

but we sure missed our little man!

Monday March 14th

St Thomas and St John

We docked in St. Thomas early Monday morning, got a taxi - and headed for the ferry to St. John. After spending much money - and experiencing some tropical rain - we discovered the most beautiful beach . ever .

St. Lucia

In St. Lucia we took a rain-forest tour

Friday March 18th

St. Kitts

In St. Kitts we hired a taxi driver,

to take us to a beach,

pick us up,

drive us around town,

and then drop us off to shop.

Our beach was called

"Ship-Wreck"

There were tons of MONKEYS!!!

and gave us a tour of the island.

Blair, in our group, asked if the island had Mormon Missionaries.

and took us to see 'our church'

It was so small!

But so clean, and cute!

There were some boys playing in a

large Mango tree in the church's yard.

Saturday March 19th

St. Maarten

In St. Maarten, we rented a jeep - and explored the island.

St. Maarten is half french,

and half dutch.

On the French side,

we found a cute little shop

that served French food, candies, and pastries.

We were in heaven.

We also stumbled upon the ONLY

nude beach on the entire island.

Sunday March 20th -

San Juan

On Sunday we disembarked the ship.

It was the fastest, most organized thing I have ever seen.

We were off the ship, bags in hand, in 10 minutes.

It was amazing.

We had the entire day in San Juan.

We rented a car, checked into our hotel,

dropped the bags off, and set out to explore!

With all 6 of us in our rental, and Paige at the wheel ...

our first stop was the rain-forest.

And so much greenery!

While we were driving through the winding roads,

it started to rain.

HARD.

It was amazing.

This was all dry, and then within seconds,

I always knew something was up with Nick!

We stayed in a hospital.

No Joke.

Our hotel, the Howard Johnson,

was on the 4th floor of the hospital!!

How ironic!!

But... it only had 2 queen beds.

So we pushed them together...

and tried to sleep.

Monday March 21st

Home Sweet Home

We flew out Monday morning -

well at least we were suppose to!

We opted to take a later flight,

for $650 vouchers apiece for a later flight!!

AWESOME!!!

We got home around 2am -

and promptly woke up Josh!

He just kept starring at us,

rubbing his eyes,

saying 'Dadda?'

and laughing.

It was a great vacation,

but coming home to this cutie pie -

was the best part!

Valentines

We spent Valentine's Day as a family.

Nick and I went out on a date over the weekend

- with some friends to Anasazi Grill -

it was divine.

We left Josh with his first 'non-family' babysitter

- a cute girl in our ward -

she was great!

On Valentines, we made a fancy pasta dinner

- and delivered valentines.

Josh got a drum with all sorts of other musical toys from us

December and January

Hello -

Our last post was about going private... we had so many requests to follow - we know we are super popular. . .so we are contemplating the private thing... but an update is so overdue.

There are lots of pictures below - starting from the beginning of December and through January.

We will start out with an adorable picture of our monster. He loves to get his food everywhere.

On December 6th, Paige got a phone call at work, from Nick's little sister Ashley. Ash was crying and all Paige could understand was...I'm and 8...

Now, Ashley was 29 weeks pregnant with twins. For those of you that don't know... that is 10 or so weeks early for twins. Paige rushed right -- across the street - - to the hospital to be with Ashley. Her husband, Devin was in SLC for meetings.

We discovered the twins would be coming that day. Paige stayed with Ash until her parents got there. Once Devin arrived - about 530pm - they prepped Ash for a C-Section - the boys were here by 6. Everyone did great - especially the boys - being so early.

I'm not sure which baby is which - but these are their first pictures in the NICU - now they are at home, doing great! If I could get over this cold - I'd be there every day holding them! :)

Our first Christmas with Josh was amazing...unfortunately - we didn't take very many pictures.

On Christmas Eve, we went to Paige's mom's neighbor's house - for a traditional dinner. It was fun to see so many friends from Paige's old neighborhood.

Of course we got home, and opened our traditional pj's and ornaments. Nick and Paige got daddy and mommy snowmen, and Josh got a little tike's plane ornament - for his first airplane ride, home with us.

Nick's 32'nd birthday was January 16th - we were going to be out of town - for Summer's (Paige's sister in law) graduation. So Nick was a little bummed, he wouldn't have a fancy birthday party on his big day. But I surprised him - Nick had scouts - and once he left, the friends started to arrive. He was sure surprised when he got home, and found all of his friends there to party! :)

Last but not least, we drove to SLC, after Nick's party to be there for Summer's graduation from NURSING SCHOOL! Way to go Summer! She has now passed her stinking NCLEX (the hardest test in the history of man!) and she is an official RN. Welcome to the club Summy! :) We are so proud of her! We love her to pieces!

The last few months have flown by with Josh.

We can't believe how much we love him, and what our lives were like without him!

He is doing so many funny things...that we need to remember.

so...at 15 months he -

* He still signs for everything - he learned to sign bath and blanket.

* He loves to say baby and blow kisses, and he still signs all the regular, please, more, milk, thank you, hi, bye, mom, dad,

* He can show you some of his body parts: eyes, ears, nose, teeth, tongue, lips, hair, head, toes, belly, fingers.

* He can tell you what the dog, cow, turkey, and scarecrow say.

* He loves to read farm books - he waves at the farmer!

* He says some words - but mostly signs - but he says dada, mama, ball, book, bye, uo oh,... and jabbers non stop!

* He loves to wrestle. He loves to wrestle mommy! - He is great at pulling her hair!

* He has had super bad ear infections, and will probably get tubes ... :(

* He blows everyone kisses

* Still a water baby!

* The DR thinks he is allergic to dairy products, so we've removed dairy :( and the kid loves soy milk!

* Can open all the doors in our house, he loves to escape into the garage.

* He loves to open and close the big garage door.

* Ever since Mugs, (Paige's brothers dog) was here, Josh runs to the backyard doors every time we get home, saying pup pup - looking for Mugs.

*He loves babies, he is protective of the babies in his day care class, he loves to kiss them.

We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We sure did!

We spent Thursday with Paige's family - the feast was delicious, and it was fun to just have a small group - but we sure missed Mike and Summer and Aubree.

After dinner, Paige's uncle and his family came over for pie and games. We had a violent game of spoons, that Paige won!! Then it was time for Rock-Band. We had a great day!

We started 'Black-Friday Shopping' on Thursday at 11pm. We had a blast! Our sister in law, Adrienne, and her friend Gil came, and then Paige's friend Heidi. We had quite the list to get - but we got it all! :) It only took us until noon the next day! hahahaha - we were all up for over 30 hours! We can't wait for next year!

On Saturday we went to Minersville to celebrate the holiday with Nick's family.
We needed a new / updated family picture for our ward, so we had one of our nieces take our picture before dinner.

The Dickens Festival was going on here last week. They have the best Santa ever! He is the REAL deal! So we decided to take Josh to meet him. In line he kept waving at Santa, clapping, and blowing kisses. We were getting excited - hoping he would smile and giggle for Santa - which he doesn't do at all for 'strangers' but... we were wrong. He just gave Santa his stare, and sat there as stiff as a board. But at least he didn't freak-out - and in all honesty - that is our Joshy - shy in public, and just watches everything - taking it all in.

We finally got our tree up last night! Our house has been decorated since Thanksgiving, minus the tree. Josh loved the ornaments, and seeing his reflection in the big red balls!

Josh had his ONE YEAR Doctor Appointment today.

He was tired.

It was nap time.

He was needing a snack.

He has 2 new teeth coming in.

Needless to say . . .

He wasn't super happy about being at the Doctor.

He was really upset when he realized he would be getting shots.

4 of them to be exact.

But he had his mommy and daddy to hold

and a bottle to comfort him.

He did good.

He just hated being held down the most.

Height 30 Inches - 60%

Head 18 Inches - 53%

So he is tall and skinny -

of course we knew that!

We are excited to be done with formula!

Where to Begin?!!

On Saturday September 11th - we went to the Iron County LiveStock show - to see our niece Shakell show off her Lamb.

Josh didn't mind getting a ride on her Lamb - He tried to eat her halter! :)

Our sister-in-law, Adrienne, drew a once-in-a-lifetime-elk-tag. So of course we had to go hunting! We drove up last Friday afternoon - and by the time we got to Cedar, she called us and told us she had found her bull! We met them at their house and drove 'out-west' for over an hour - to help her get the bull off the mountain. It was big...and stinky!

He was up on a big mountain/rock ledge - we have no idea how 'uncle tubby' (Justin) got the four-wheeler up to him! But he did - we loaded him on - and the boys drove him down.

I had to learn all these things when I joined the Marshall family! :)

On Saturday, we went out to where the family had been camping. We enjoyed dutch-oven potatoes and BBQ'ed hamburgers. Josh's favorite part was the marshmallow he stole from Grandma!

He knew he'd managed to get something he shouldn't eat -

but he loved gobbling it up and being all sticky!

On the drive home, we saw a WILD HORSE!! Nick tells all kinds of stories of how his family use to drive OFF of the road - and CHASE them! He smiled at me all mischievously - and we were off - through the brush - chasing the wild horse.

I must admit - I was nervous and my mind was racing about all the things that could go wrong! - this is one of our real vehicle's- what if we roll - - what if we hit a rock - - - on and on - - - but don't worry -

I soon forgot all my fears and had a blast laughing with Nick as we cruised over the brush to chase the horse.

We hit lots of bumps, bounced a lot, and I swear flew - but Josh managed to STAY ASLEEP! Must have been because his sugar high from the marshmallow was gone!

The best news is that on Tuesday the 28th, we were able to go before Judge Schumate and finalize our adoption of Josh. It was an amazing day - to realize that forever he is ours, our son, a Marshall.

We enjoyed being in Judge Shumate's court room - he instantly put us at ease with his humor!

While we were being 'sworn-in' Josh pulled apart the microphone - I could have crawled under the table -but the Judge enjoyed it and was laughing at our cute son.

Josh was so happy, as if he knew this was a special day for our family. He smiled and clapped for the Judge.

It was an amazing experience - that brings so much peace after such a long wait. The Judge only referred to us a couple of times as Mr and Mrs Marshall - the rest of the time - he called us Mom and Dad. It was so neat. It validated us. It finalized us. We are so ecstatic to be done - to have Josh as ours - Now - next step - the Temple for our sealing - coming up in ONE WEEK!!! Of course there will be a ginormous post on that special event!

We went on a Sunday drive last week -

We stopped in Veyo for a picnic -

so fun to eat out of the back of our new SUV!

~ LABOR DAY WEEKEND ~

We went to Nick's parents on Saturday of Labor Day weekend -

Josh loved seeing some of his cousins!

He discovered Grandma's rocking horse

and had a GREAT time!

We all (grandma, grandpa, Adrienne and kids)

went to Parowan, for the Iron County Fair -

Josh did NOT like the petting zoo.

The baby pig scared him to death!

The big pot-belly pig was just lazy, he wasn't AS scared of it!

Of course - we did some rides -

Josh liked it for about 2 seconds!

On the way up and across the top,

he would grab Nick's face and cover Nick's eyes!

Then on the way down he would relax.

We loved watching it from the ground!

We had fun eating dinner, and watching pirates!

On Monday, we went back over to Paige's mom's and went swimming.

So much fun with the cute little girls!

We taught them to play Marco Polo - it was a blast!

Troy and Andrea are in NYC! Lucky!

And Andrea's mommy is here watching the kids,

but it was her parents 48th anniversary Monday,

so we let Grandma have a night off - with her honey!

So we watched Tanner and Camrie -

Bath time was an adventure -

Josh had a very fancy beard - until he tried to eat it!

We had a great weekend - and now - back to work.

10 Months!

Josh is 10 months old today!
He has been apart of our family for almost 5 months!
Time sure flies!

Josh is doing so many fun things:

* stairs. he loves stairs

* plays the piano. he loves music.

* giggles when mommy plays the piano and makes actual music

* must eat table food with mommy and daddy

* loves water. tub. shower. pool

* has discovered the cupboards in the kitchen

* loves to play peek-a-boo

* Sunday morning he kept putting the blanket over mommy and pulling it down

* last night he pulled the blanket over himself, and slowly lowered it down

* he is stubborn. he gets his way.

* he has learned to pull himself up - to anything and everything

* he loves it outside

* at daycare he climbs UP the slide to go down

* he finally laughed for one of his teachers

* he laughs constantly for mommy and daddy

* but he is stingy when it comes to others

* he has to take EVERYTHING in when in a new environment

* it takes him at least 30 min to warm up

* he lays in his crib and will babble before going to sleep, and when he wakes up

* he sleeps 10 hours

* he pats you on the back when you hold him

* he is learning to give hugs

* he gives the best kisses

* he waves bye bye - but only to a select few

* he loves to babble in the car and make long noises (singing!)

* clapping - cutest. thing. ever.

* gets so excited to see mommy and daddy

Yesterday we had all kinds of fun with Josh!
We went to Pasta Factory where he enjoyed all kinds of new foods!

Olives, Croutons, Pasta, Breadsticks, and of course lemons.

He gobbled down a lemon. Seriously gobbled it!
He would grab it and shove it in his mouth.

Oh Sylvia -

our beloved Camry Hybrid - is gone.

We got her for Paige, when she finished Nursing School.

We loved her.

But, we traded her in - for a car that could handle Josh.

Who knew about all of the baby stuff needed to travel,

and Sylvia (our car) had a very small trunk

due to her hybrid batteries.

Sad day. Very Sad Day.

Paige even cried driving her into work on the last morning. :(

First Camp Out!

We went camping on Beaver Mountain last weekend with Andrea and Troy. Every year, Andrea's family gets together at 'their' campground on the mountain - we have been lucky enough to be invited for the past 2 years to their family camp-out . . . and we love it! We look forward to it!

This was Josh's first time camping - it was cold, rainy, and wet, but he did great! We actually slept in Cynthia's (Nick's sister) trailer - about 25 minutes away from Andrea's family - so that we didn't have to put up, and clean up a tent - because we left pretty early Saturday - so that we could make it to Logandale, for Koby;s (our nephew) baptism.

It was so cold, so we let Josh sleep in the bed with us - none of us slept well - but it was sure fun to be camping! :)

We had a BLAST camping! The Smith family is awesome! We love being in the mountains, and it is even better with great friends!

We also celebreated Troy's birthday while we were camping - we don't have any pictures on our camera, because we were manning the camera's for Andrea - she suprised Troy with a trip to NYC for the US Open (tennis) Troy was super suprised - and they are so excited! They'll be gone for a week! Without us! What are we going to do without them? More importantly - is it possible for them to enjoy a vacation without us? We hope so, but we'll see!

Growing SO fast

Oh we just want time to slow down, and Josh to stop growing! It goes by SO fast!! Josh has been so funny - getting his sense of humor, learning so many new things, and keeping us on our toes!

Here is some fun new things about Josh:

* got his first tooth last week - and he actually did pretty well.

* loves to sit up at the table with us when we are eating, and eat his puffs - - - he acts like such a big boy

* laughs at us constantly

* has started to giggle at himself in the car

* started a fake cough to get attention

* rubs the back of his head - loves to touch his hair

* sit in his crib after he wakes up and play for about 30 minutes

* climbs on everything

* and of course - nothing new - he loves ALL water

Last night we had to record some of his new discoveries -

This is Josh in his bouncy - just a laughing. He loves to bounce and bounce - and his laugh is the best thing ever! Enjoy!!

Then - he discovered the stairs last night for the first time. This is a video of his second trip up the stairs. He made it all the way to the top both times!

Oh man - I had the camera turned funny!! So just tilt your head so you can watch this adorable video!!! Sorry!

Then the little turkey found our piano - and had to play us a song. Of course once we tried to video - he stopped and just smiled at us - but he loves to press the keys. We got one still picture - He is so funny.

So, Paige's mommy got married to Todd. We love Todd.

8 months and Father's Day

Yesterday we celebrated Josh being 8 months old,

and Nick's FIRST official Father's Day!

Josh is 8 months old!

Josh is so much fun!! Even though the poor kid can't catch a break on being sick! Don't mind the booger nose in these pictures - some battles are not worth it! :) Plus his nose is sore.

Things to remember about Josh at 8 months:

* He loves to giggle

* He is a mover! He grabs the carpet and pulls himself along!

* He has a new face - the scrunchy face - it is adorable! He wrinkles up his nose so cute!

* He has the biggest smile

* He waves

* He loves to eat!

* He gives the best kisses! But mostly just to Mommy!

* He loves to roll and roll and roll

* He loves kids. He has such a blast when we are with his cousins

* He loves paper

* He jabbers all the time! Dadadadada and Babababa

* He has a new screech that we do not like

* He loves company in the back seat

* He is better at sitting up

* He reaches out to be held

* He loves the shower and bath tub

We are just so happy to have him in our family! We love him to pieces - and we can't imagine life without him!

Nick's First Official Father's Day

Nick is the best dad ever! Serious! The bond between Josh and Nick is indescribable. The way they look at each other - is so cute! I have been privileged to watch as Nick just take on the father role so easily. He is such a great example to Josh - I can't wait to see all the amazing things Nick is going to teach Josh.

Don't' you think these are the two most handsome boys ever?!! I'm pretty lucky!

Catch Up

Well Josh had his 8 month doctors appointment today. We had 8 months instead of 9 - because he needed some immunizations before he was 8 months old. Here are his stats for today:

Weight: 15 pounds 14 ounces - 4%

Height: 28 1/4 inches - 78%

Sadly for little Josh - he has been sick the past 4-5 days. He stated with an upset tummy, and then came the vomiting, poop, and fevers. He had been all smiles until yesterday. And to top it all off at his appointment today, we found out he has a super duper bad ear infection. SAD BOY!! Needless to say we have done more laundry this past week then ever before, and we are pros at taking apart the car seat for cleaning! We hope our Joshy gets feeling better soon!

We went to Minersville the middle of April for Nick's cousin Ali's homecoming from her mission! It was Josh's first time to Minersville, to Grandma and Grandpa's and his first time playing in their 'park!'

Our niece, Aryale got baptized the same day Ashley graduated! So we all headed up to Minersville to celebrate! It was so neat to watch her dad baptize and confirm her! Afterwords, we got a picture with all 9 grandkids with Grandma and Grandpa!

We've had lots of new friends for Josh to meet!

This is the Arnold Family. Their dad works with Nick. They recently adopted Keegan, also from Georgia! We are so excited for Josh to have such a fun new friend! We had a great time at their house in May - homemade pizza, Krave yogurt, and fun visiting! Thanks Arnolds!

Craig, Sarah, and Christopher Yerke, came and spent the weekend with us in May! We had a blast! We always love when the Yerke's come - they seriously crack us up!!! Christopher is just a month older than Josh - he is such a happy baby! And he is so tall because his parents are both GIANTS! We love you Yerke's! Come visit anytime!

Of course, we love Blair! We were over at the Albrecht's for Blair's birthday in May, and Blair just loved putting his hat on Josh! Josh liked it too!

Camrie, our favorite neighbor, and girlfriend, turned one in May! Because of the bad weather, the party was moved from the park to the garage! We had a great time!

Wow Andrea! You've got Josh and the cute birthday girl, Camrie!

A few days after Camrie's birthday party, we were watching the Webb kids, and we decided to go for a short walk. Braxton rode his bike with Nick, Tanner rode his bike alongside Paige while she pushed Josh and Camrie - in the same stroller! Josh and Camrie actually got along really well, and they were laughing at each other!

For Memorial Day, we spent the day with Paige's family. We cleaned graves in Pinto, and then on to New Castle. Then we had a BBQ in Enterprise with lots of Paige's aunts, uncles, and cousins. It was a great day!

The first week of June, we took Josh to Grandma Luey's house for his first swim! The water was still a little cool, but he loves the water! He had a great time splashing around!

On Monday June 7th, Josh started day care. Our hospital provides services for the employees, so lucky us! Josh had a rough first day, which involved lots of tears. So sad. Tuesday was a great day, and then Wednesday and Thursday the tummy bug got him - he was still very happy even though he was throwing up and having blow-outs!

Over the last weekend, we got to go to Orem to meet with Josh's social worker, to have our second post-placement visit. We drove up Thursday night after work, and planned on returning home Saturday. The visit was great. The traveling was not. Josh was sick on the way up, and then Paige woke up with the tummy bug on Friday morning. We had our visit, met up for a minute with Tyler and Camille (our friends from Indiana) and then headed home early. There is nothing like being at home in your own bed when you don't feel good!

Of course we had to stop by Temple Square!
It was raining, but we toured the Visitor Centers, Beehive home,

Joseph Smith Memorial, and the temple grounds.

2 Months

Two months ago today we met our son Josh.

We can't believe how fast the time has flown by

- but on the other hand -

we feel like we have known him forever.

He has brought us so much happiness.

We can't imagine life without him.

We are so thankful to Jessica and John,

for their decision to place him with us -

to raise him, to teach him, and to love him.

We are the luckiest family in the world!

7 Months

Josh is 7 months today!

We can't believe that we've had Josh in our home for almost 2 months!

Things to remember about Josh at 7 months:

* He loves to smile and giggle
* Lots for momma and daddy
* But not often for others
* He will not smile for the camera
* He loves to eat
* But he hates any type of cereal
* He likes the bath tub
* He loves the shower
* He sleeps on his tummy
* He loves to jabber
* He does it all the time
* He says da da da da
* He says mmmmm but not mama
* He started to crawl
* But only one time
* Now he just loves to do push-ups
* He loves to roll around
* He often gets stuck on his tummy and he hates it
* He loves his toes and his tongue
* He loves to suck on his bottom lip
* He is a screamer
* He hates having lotion put on his face
* He loves stuffed animals
* Everything goes in his mouth
* He likes to ride in the car
* He loves his stroller
* He loves his jumper
* He loves to splash in the tub
* He is determined to get out of his bumbo
* He hates when we leave the room
* He has met at least 300 family and friends
* They all love him
* But not as much as we do!
